Gold for Glory!
Well our Olympic Athon has come to an end. Questions answered, money collected and fingers crossed for spot prizes. We celebrated our achievements with an amazing assembly. We were joined by 4 Olympic Yachting Champions, Peter Burling, Blair Tuke, Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie. The culture club welcomed them onto the stage, where they graciously answered questions and drew the names for spot prizes. They were extremely inspirational and didn't seem to mind the endless requests for autographs and photos.

Olympicathon Day
I arrived and saw face paint, foam fingers and more all to do with the U S A (United States of America). Our class was representing this awesome country America. This Athon day was all to do with the Olympics. The 1st of August this year was filled of questions, answers and many activities. Queen Elizabeth the 2nd and Prince Phillip (aka Mrs Hopkins and Mr Davis) of the host country England were here. We strode to the hall where the orchestra and culture club welcomed us. The NZ national anthem was played. After that the class had a “challenging” quiz with “hard” questions. We also had a great closing ceremony. If I had to pick a highlight it would be the 3rd team meet air soccer. What a magnificent day I had.

Fun at the Athon Day
Royal Oak Primary School Athon Day
Face paint, hats, red, white, blue, what great supporters of USA.
On the 1st August everyone of Royal Oak Primary was supporting our classroom countries. Everyone was looking forward this magnificent day ahead. Everyone gathered into the hall, what a site. National anthems of England and New Zealand were played. Everyone went into their classroom and we had a challenging quiz. We also had games like air soccer. At the end of the day we had an awesome conclusion to the day, the closing ceremony. My favourite part was the games, air soccer. What a magnificent day for me and it was a great way to support USA and the Olympics.

Cross Country
19\7\12
There is under 5 weeks until the year 5 and 6 cross country. The training is underway. The track is on grass, mud and gravel. Crossing past the Stardome Observetory, then up to the junction, cutting off down to the right and up and across the ridge, then down to complete the final loop. I wonder who will win this year!

Trash to fashion
In term 2, year 5&6 traveled to the Corbin Estate Arts Centre. We learnt how to be sustainable by re-using (or up-cycling) old materials to make cool outfits. We also watched a video of the finalists from this year and their winning outfits. We saw a lot of different outfit materials varying from cans to dishwashers, from stage lighting gel to flax. This term we are going to make our own outfits out of materials we have collected from home.
